We take the visual poem by Regina Guimarães as point of departure to name this work, which takes in consideration the practices of fabric production and transformation, in a household context, into the manufacture of garments and house clothing. Knowing that the work with fabric bear gender issues - in relation to what is considered women's work - either in a globas or in domestic context. We want this work to relate to this practices through an artistic creation, a large scale piece made from hand-crafted Renda Sol (sun-shaped lace), which takes the shape of one of the elements of gothic architecture - the rose window.
This piece comes out of the re:union and re:articulation of those sources and themes with others, in particular: the meaning bore by the rose window (especially that which is represented in the tomb of the Portuguese king D. Pedro I), related with the Circle of Life - the world, life and death, the public and the private; and the legend that is in the origin of Renda Sol or Nhanduti. This tells the story of a heartbroken native young woman, whose lover disapeared the night before their wedding. When she finds him dead in the jungle, she hugs him thight and mourns him througout the night. At dawn, the sun light shows that the warrior was wrapped in a beautiful cover made from spider-made webs. The young woman look for needles and strings and she copied the spiders' amazing work. She weaved a gorgeous winding sheet for her lover, creating the first piece known as Nhanduti.
