Parole, parole, parole... (
Words, words, words...) is a challenge to emptying words from its meaning, as well as an exercise of translation and rendering codes. Thus,
Parole, Parole, Parole... leads us to an approach of
re:play which is closer to notions of
re:invetion and
re:criation, and farther from plain
re:petition.
When we face a language we do not understand, a code we are not familiar with, or when fascinated by a code we detach from its content, we tend to create “images”. In
Parole, parole, parole... the scene becomes the communication device that generates these “images”, which come up when verbal discourse is replaced by contemplation. As we become voyeurs in a kind of communicational dead end, we are more available to analyze the “images” and create a metadiscourse about them. In this theater, characters are devoided of identity. They are anonymous interlocutors in a series of translations on stage, which overlap on each other and leave traces of signification from the text that is being transferred. The dialogs and translations – mostly in French and English – push away the possibility of fully understanding what is happening, in an almost-satire about the misfit between signification and context, which is extremely common in our social intercourses. In addition, the use of codes and clichés from mainstream culture, suggests a critique about its logics of bourgeois entertainment.
