Performance

Convento dos Remédios, Évora
July 15th, starting at 10PM

Young artists propose to analyze and re:make works by iconic performance art creators, in the attempt to re:think old questions by means of new bodies and their liveness.

Kamasutra Machine
The performance Kamasutra Machine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL6ilt-D32E) is a re:play of a performance that uses as creative matter the Kamasutra, manual for sexual intercourse. Performed by two women, the performance raises gender issues, as well as the very question of re:production, because, since one is inside the machine, what happens in it is the transference, re:creation and re:actualization of a set of images extracted from Kamasutra.

Nude with Skeleton
In this exercise of re:petition of Marina Abramovic's performance, a nude body of a young artist rests laid down holding a skeleton. According to Abramovic, this is the last reflection that all of us will face someday.  This re:invention of a performance art classic piece, drives us into a performance of the restlessness of life-death relationship.

Eu não quero morrer sem cicatrizes: de que corpo é este rasto?
Performance that takes as starting point the work by the performer Franko B. A re:actualization that materializes a questioning about the site of the body.

This work emerges from a series of questions raised by readings I have been doing, related with the notions of body, soul, and flesh. I intend to show a body which, by mean of the pain that becomes apparent in mutilation, liberates itself and becomes aware of its social, cultural, political and sexual constraints, assuming its condition of flesh and soul. The blood that spills out of each cut is a necessary manifestation of a, conscious, soul, and attempts to break by means of pain the constraints that society imposed to the body. A body that is nowadays conditioned to its functionality; the body is a means to an end. I want that body to come into contact with its essence, to bath in its own blood, in its own pain. This bath will liberate it. Only after being in contact with that which is its most primitive side, this body will gain consciousness of itself and it will move as it was reborn, leaving a trace so that it can remember where it came from. This new and purified body is aware of its condition, everything which it suffered and bleed inside, was suffered and bled from the outside, this process liberated it and offered it a new awareness about the prison in which it was enclosed. Mutilation is a cure of awareness, to body driven to be unaware of itself.
