During the last supper, specifically mentioning the act of having the Bread (and the Wine), Jesus asked his Apostles ‘Do this in My Memory’. As Jesus, Art asks us, as its disciples, to celebrate through Art itself the miracle of life.

A sculpture brings to us the bread of Last Supper, to be eaten at the spectacular dimension of the search for visual and vital nutrition, that Art offers us. This project by
Maria José Correia plays with the relationships between eternal and ephemeral, metaphoric and real.
To exhibit this installation/happening the Gallery of Celeiros (room on the first floor of Antigos Celeiros da EPAC) was chosen. This is the perfect space to host the piece given its unique architectonic features, which offer the chance of creating a mystical and theatrical environment. “Having also in mind the biblical references to Mount Sinai (outside the old Jerusalem), where it is the Last Supper could have in fact take place, in a place that it is traditionally called ‘the room upstairs’, it makes all sense that this ‘Re:Last Supper’ takes place in this selected upstairs room of Espaço Celeiros”, said the young creator, when she saw the room for the first time.
The choice of bread as working material is grounded on Maria José Correia’s family history – she is the last of many generations of bakers. The creation of bread sculptures started early in her BA, and today it is the material that the young artist privileges in her work.
Lets join, once more, a young creator and her unique proposition, and be fascinated by the architectonic features of Galeria dos Celeiros, in a
re:union which celebrates the present art and challenges visitors to the
re:invented re:petition of the redemptive act of Last Supper.
