What happens when a street theater troupe sets itself at the square of a city? The new criation by
Teatro de Ferro (TdF) arrives at the historic center of Évora with the verve and romantism of nomads, to present a popular-style show that encourages the audience participation. In a currency exchange-
re:convertion of B. Brecht’s opera,
Ópera dos cinco € (Five € Opera) “tries to take out of the cage of experts and expertises some of the fears, anguishes, isolation that affect us all in contemporary society [...], conceiving a different time – that of wandering world, in transit, the yolk inside the Colombo’s egg, and allowing another way of collective gathering” (TdF). The creative logics of this “Brecht rap - techno weill”
re:flects the tension between a/the discipline and desire for transdisciplinarity, in a quest for the relationship between the uttered and sang word, as well as between song and movement. This shows promises to be a blast at the square!
TdF develops a theatrical, performative, and interventionist vocabulary founded on the articulation between puppet theater and objects manipulation, movement and new media. The artistic direction of the company is signed by Igor Gandra, which has been distinguished and awarded by the Clube Português de Artes e Ideias (1997), Ministério da Cultura/DGArtes (2004), Cidade de Gaia (2005) and Jornal do Centro (2005).
