Visões Úteis presents, on July 15th, at 6PM and 9.30PM, in one of the seminar rooms of Hotel D. Fernando, the play A Comissão ( The Committee). On the day before, the company proposes to talk about the work it has been developing in dialogue with several landscapes – urban and rural, national and international – in creations that overcome the realm of theater and are contaminated by the aesthetics of sound and image.
In Visões Úteis we want to make art for those that live near us, taking the effort of making contemporary art an integral part of everyday life as our priority. Our artistic project brings together contemporary artistic research and a strong bond with the concepts of site and identity. The writing by Visões Úteis has been reflecting that bond into various theater production, but also into objects that overcome the borders of theater, originating other artistic objects closer of Landscape Art.
Between 2002 and 2009 Visões Úteis created three audio-walks - “Coma Profundo” (“Deep Coma”) in OPorto in 2002, “Errare” (“Wandering”) in Parma (Italy) in 2004, and “Os Ossos de que é feita a Pedra” (“The Bones from which the Stone is made”) in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 2009. These experiments approach urbanism, architecture, History, the stones in each path, as part of collective and individual identities, as matter of artistic creation.
In 2007, in the show “O Resto do Mundo” (“The Rest of the World”), we took the audience in a taxi drive through the eastern zone of Oporto, where highways, yards, poor neighborhoods and wide forested avenues cross. The city that hides beyond a the external speed way surrounding it and which divides the city into two different realities was the scene for this adaption of Joseph Conrad’s ”Heart of Darkness”
And in 2010 we turn to journey and landscape once more, in search for materials to our creative work. We are preparing a multimedia installation to be premiered for the celebration of Cluny’s 1100 years (France), next September, at “Toute L’Europe à Cluny” (“All Europe comes to Cluny”). “A Língua das Pedras” (“The Language of Stones”) will be a musing on the immaterial heritage left by the religious order of Cluny, in an attempt to trace a spiritual cartography based on the material heritage that is still present today, at the vastness of sites that the Order crossed during its expansion. This installation will depart from sounds, images, interviews, stories, and impressions, recollected from approximately 20 sites occupied by the Order of Cluny, in France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany, which we visited between February and March.
